Gina, I will let you know after tonight. I haven't had a chance to watch that far yet. My wife and daughter saw some of it. Sarah thought it was wrong at first but she went back and read some of the passages about Samson and saw that she was wrong on some parts. I will look at it tonight.
This weeks episode was definitely a BIG learning experience for me! I realized just how uneducated I am in the Old Testament department! A lot of the story of Samson and Delilah was different than the scripture; it really just seemed like they had to cut out details for time constraints just like a lot of movies that are created from books have to do. A few things that I was reading about the story of Samson that I wanted to ask about was the absence of Samson's father in the episode. From what I read it seemed like Samson's father was just as present as the mother. Another thing I was curious about was the time period between when Samson's Philistine wife's murder and when he met Delilah. I wanted to check and make sure that what I read was correct....wasn't there a 20 year time difference between those two events? One last thing about Samson's story that I wanted to ask was in the episode they showed Delilah dying in the temple along with Samson and the other Philistines. Is this accurate? I thought that how she died and when wasn't really known.
The story of Saul and David was good; I learned that King David is the same David that killed Goliath! I had NO idea and never put two and two together I guess. I really liked how they portrayed the respect that David had for Saul even though he knew how Saul felt about him. One question I had about this story was about the death of Jonathan and the other people of Saul and David's community. Did they die in battle like it was portrayed in the episode? I thought I remember hearing that their village was caught on fire.
The Faith Class will be discussing this series tomorrow. Mark Burnett's wife, Roma Downey, states "We've told the stories of the Bible in a way to grab viewer's attention and draw them in to want to know more". Have the producers hit this goal?
was the story of Samson as written in the Bible?
